395 Bags Of Contaminated Fukushima Soil Washed Away In Flood

NHK is reporting that 395 bags of contaminated soil and debris washed away in the recent flooding in Fukushima. 314 bags were recovered but about half had been torn and their contents washed away. The storage location of the thousands of bags of contaminated soil has been an ongoing problem. Citizens and watchdog groups have repeatedly documented unsafe storage locations on sea front beaches, in marsh areas and along river banks. The Japanese government has ignored those concerns. While there is a plan to eventually move most of these bags to central storage sites near Fukushima Daiichi, that process could take years to complete.
