Fukushima Unit 2 Shield Blocks Removed

TEPCO has reported via their Facebook page that the stuck shield blocks in unit 2 have been removed. These shielding blocks were fused to the reactor building floor due to rust in front of the CRD hatch door. They needed to be removed in order to access that hatch to insert the robot that will investigate inside containment.

TEPCO used a small piece of heavy equipment with a clamp to shake the steel plate. This eventually broke the blocks loose. With the blocks removed TEPCO will proceed as planned with the robot inspection of containment, expected to take place in the next two months.
