TEPCO Begins Small Debris Removal On Fukushima Unit 1
NHK announced late last week that TEPCO has begun removing small debris off the top of Fukushima unit 1 with a vacuum device.
This debris removal would be the small debris that is on top of the collapsed roof layer. Once this is removed they will need to cut and remove the layer of collapsed roof materials before they move on to the larger debris beneath it. Each layer presents a new risk for contamination to the environment. TEPCO has installed a dust suppression system but it has yet to be used during the more involved debris removal process that is upcoming.
