Fukushima R&D To Weld Containment Equipment Hatch Closed

From the IRID 2015 report, there is a research plan to weld shut the containment equipment hatches from the inside. This would be done by drilling a hole and inserting a welding arm.

This tactic likely came about due to the leaking hatch at unit 3. Our reporting on that problem can be found here. This method of sealing the equipment hatches would be required if they plan to flood the containment vessel as part of decommissioning work.
