New Fukushima Contaminated Soil Storage Sits On River Banks
The new interim storage site designated for longer term storage of radioactive contaminated soil near Fukushima Daiichi has opened for business. The effort has been undertaken to move some of the massive caches of contaminated soil around Japan to be stored in the evacuation zone.
Asahi Shimbun published a photo of some of the established storage plots, located adjacent to a river. The photo shows some sort of surface preparation on these storage areas. This would not prevent all ways contamination could leave the storage bags and migrate into the river. Considering the massive amounts of contaminated soil to eventually be stored in this area, the proximity to the river is concerning.
