Brazil May Curtail Nuclear Plans

A recent story mentions that Brazil will not move ahead with 4 planned nuclear power plants. This came from the nation’s Power Research Corporation that establishes the long term energy planning for Brazil. Meanwhile the head of the Mines and Energy Ministry said the country plans to move forward with the additional 4 reactors. Who has the final say right now is not clear. If Brazil does officially end these new nuclear projects it would be significant after news earlier this week of Siemens completely ending their nuclear division.

It was also mentioned in August that Brazil has hit the point where wind power is cheaper than natural gas generation. They will also reach 60% total power from winds sources by 2020.
