NRC Public Meeting On North Anna Nuclear Plant Today

The NRC claimed yesterday on their blog that the situation at North Anna is so unique they wanted to have the meeting as soon as possible and open to the public. No hints from the NRC or Dominion if this is good news or bad news regarding the plants ability to continue to run. The New York Times ran an article detailing the inspection work that is ongoing. The NRC did admit to USA Today that the containment structure took .26g, 26% the force of gravity but it is designed to withstand only .12g or 12%. Reuters reports that the meeting will be to discuss the analysis of the seismic findings.
Dominion continues to tell the media the plant is safe even though cracks were found in the containment, fuel storage casks were moved on their pedestals and power was lost due to the quake.

The meeting is today, September 8th at 1pm EST. It can be viewed at the NRC website Live Meeting page. We will have some live blogging comments during the meeting at our live blog.
