Japan Company Caught Exporting Radioactive Scrap Metal To China

A load of contaminated scrap metal from Japan was discovered in the Chinese port city of Ningbo. The contamination was 28% above the legal limit in China. The shipment by a subsidiary of Japan’s Taiwa Trade Co Ltd. was found to be contaminated by officials in China on May 13, 2012. The shipment originated in Chiba, Japan. The company denied the export of contaminated metal was intentional adding it could have been from contaminated vehicles from Fukushima that had been dismantled for scrap but “slipped though”.
