IAEA Warned Of Fukushima Tank Risks Back In May

safety_smIn a report to TEPCO back in May 2013, the IAEA advised TEPCO that leaks in the water storage tanks could be a major problem that should be prevented. They also cited that it could cause contamination to the groundwater bypass wells.

Additionally, considering the high total inventory of radioactivity currently stored in the numerous tanks located upstream of the pumping wells of the groundwater bypass system, it is of utmost importance to have adequate measures in place for detecting leaks promptly and
mitigating their consequences.”
