TEPCO Shows New Cranes Inside Unit 4 Defueling Building
TEPCO released the first images of the inside of the unit 4 defueling building. The images focus on the overhead crane and fuel handling machine (crane) that have been newly installed. The cranes are able to move from the reactor well area over the spent fuel pool and to what appears to be a service lift. The lift may be the method for lowering fuel casks, TEPCO has not clearly explained that portion of the process.
They do announce a couple of upcoming events for this work. Both the fuel handling machine and overhead crane are currently going through testing and inspections. They hope to have the inspections done by the end of October. The current start date for removing fuel from the pool is mid-November.
TEPCO should install a live camera similar to the one they have on the plant grounds so the public can see work going on.
