Fukushima Water Leak Issues May Still Be Out Of Control In 2020
Officials from METI admit that problems with leaking contaminated water at Fukushima Daiichi may still not be under control in 2020. The advisory panel to METI has made a list of new actions that need to be taken to help control the leaking water problems at the plant. Some included were to pave over parts of the plant to lessen rainwater intrusion and to install double wall tanks on site for long term water storage. Based on the suggestions being made they appear to be from IRID.
ALPS was supposed to be online by November and is still in testing phases. This machine would remove additional radiation with the exception of tritium, and some amount of iodine 129 and cobalt 60. Officials from the US and TEPCO consultants have been trying to downplay the impact of the radioactive water leaks and the planned dumping of contaminated water after treating it through the ALPS system. The total amounts released to date are only partially understood, mostly among academics. No clear estimates of future releases have been made.
