Japan State Secrets Bill Delayed
Japan’s government effort to force through an unpopular state secrets bill has stalled. The DPJ and JCP parties submitted a no confidence motion in the lower house. The prevents the upper house from voting on the state secrets bill, the last step towards making it law.
The LDP has already called for extending the legislative session by two days so they may still be able to obtain an upper house vote. Ex-SKF reports that the no confidence motion may not have enough votes to pass. Other sources on twitter indicated it could have enough votes if the DPJ joined in (they did) and that it would force a new election.
The effort to railroad through this bill has caused large protests in Japan.
