US Fish Tested For Strontium 90
A US based fish company has had some of their salmon and tuna tested for strontium 90.
Fukushima Voice reports that the samples were considered not detected. The readings were below the level of certainty, with two in the negative range. So these are too low to confirm the presence of strontium 90. These samples were not tested for cesium 134 or 137 and probably should have also been tested for these isotopes to really understand the situation.
It is good that some private sector testing is happening since the US government has refused to do any testing at all. Keep in mind that we are just entering the phase where contamination may be rising in Pacific waters off the North American coast. So a negative finding right now does not assure a negative finding will be found in a few months, next year or the years after.
This report is still some good news that at least right now, this very small sampling is too low to detect with confidence. More widespread testing is needed to fully understand the situation.
