Japan Govt. May Financially Help Nuclear Utilities Cover Losses From Decommissioning

The Japanese government is considering giving some sort of financial assistance to nuclear power utilities that decide to scrap their aging reactors. The decommissioning process would require the companies to move the value of those plants from assets to losses. This could cause some of the utilities that over invested in nuclear power to become insolvent or financially at risk.

The government didn’t say how they would arrange any financial compensation but taxpayers would ultimately pay for it.
