TEPCO Refused To Upgrade From Windows XP At Fukushima Daiichi

computertapeJapan’s NRA has publicly urged TEPCO to upgrade computer systems used at Fukushima Daiichi, and possibly company wide. NRA pointed out the lack of current security updates in Windows XP created a significant security risk. The regulator urged TEPCO to stop being cheap and do the needed computer upgrades. After the public flogging a TEPCO representative said the company would move up the date for potential computer upgrades but didn’t say when they would be done. This is another example of public scrutiny being required for TEPCO to do something they should have done on their own.
