Fukushima Unit 1 Cover Partially Removed, Remaining Work Delayed
TEPCO removed one panel of the cover building roof of unit 1 early in the morning on July 28th. After the first panel was removed a crane could be seen extending something down into the area of the opening. No further panel removal work took place during the work day. Asahi Shimbun is reporting that further removal work for the roof will take place next week. They did not say why there would be such a long delay.
TEPCO has been moving more slowly on the removal process for unit 1 after dismantling work on unit 3 caused major radiation releases carried in dust that blew out of the plant grounds. A temporary door was installed at the first floor overhead door opening to the building in an attempt to limit releases from the building.
