GONE: Fukushima Hospital Patient Vanished In Disaster
Some time between March 14 and 16, at the height of the disaster she went missing. Most of the staff had fled after evacuations were ordered as the reactors at Fukushima Daiichi melted down. Staff last saw her March 14th. When the SDF arrived two days later to evacuate the remaining patients at Futaba Hospital in Okuma she was not among them.
Subsequent searches never found the 88 year old woman, known to have dementia. Those involved assumed she wandered off and was not discovered during the final evacuation. No one really knows what happened.
Asahi Shimbun is reporting that the family has been awarded a settlement in court against TEPCO. The nuclear disaster forced the staff to leave, setting up the situation where the woman went missing.
