Researchers To Use Tiny Space Particles To Look Inside Fukushima Reactors

Nagyoa University researchers are working on a plan to examine the Fukushima Daiichi reactors using muon particles in a process that is much like an x-ray. They do not plan to do this right away, it would be after radiation levels have died down but before the effort to remove fuel becomes a serious effort. The muon particles would be absorbed more by the nuclear fuel, leaving dark spots in the fluoroscopy visualization. They will have to wrap the reactor buildings in lead first to block gamma rays, but would still be able to see the muon particles.

Again and again, academic experts are coming up with the good and innovative ideas to tackle aspects of the disaster while politicians and TEPCO executives flounder.
