Ikata Reactor Passes NRA Safety Approval
There are still additional inspections, design reviews and local approval needed, but the Ikata nuclear plant has gained one portion of the needed approval to restart the #3 reactor at the plant. If these other approvals go through the reactor could restart as early as the end of the year. Local sentiment for the restart is not known currently but there have been criticisms of the earthquake estimates used by the power company to justify restarting the plant.
Earlier in the week the region was hit by a 5.7 magnitude quake, the power company claimed there was no damage at the plant.
