Anger, Protests In Taiwan Over Plan To Allow Fukushima Food Imports
A rushed plan by the Taiwanese government to permit foods from Fukushima prefecture and nearby to be imported has caused public backlash. Hastily arranged meetings on the subject were met with angry table flipping residents demanding this relaxation of safety rules be stopped.
An angry crowd gathered Thursday in front of the Legislative Yuan in Taipei demanding the resignation of president and premier. The KMT political party encouraged the protests.
It is not clear right now what will happen with the plan to relax food restrictions on Japanese imports, if it will be forced through or if it will defer to public anger.
