New Photos Of Unit 4, Reactor Cap Found
TEPCO was kind enough to post some high resolution images of unit 4 from the recent press event. These included some good views of unit 4. From those images we were able to pull out some new details. The workers have done an incredible amount of work on unit 4 in recent months to prepare for the add on building that will allow fuel to be removed. Amid the concerns about the stability of unit 4, the extensive and complicated work being done on a daily basis has sometimes been missed.
Details with each image. You can see all the new images including photos from around the nuclear plant at our Flickr Page.

South wall of unit 4. What appears to be some sort of diamond shaped wall patch (behind black cables) and something on the far right wall behind the red crane arm.

View of the inside of the concrete wall panels at unit 4. This is from the east upper wall and shows the layers of concrete and rebar holding the wall panels together.
Two green overhead lights from the refueling floor can be seen in this image twisted among the roof trussing. One lower left, the other, upper right.
Close up of the reactor cap and steam dryer. Unit 4.
Close up of the modified cab on a crane placed on a platform over the reactor well at unit 4. The crane can be seen in images of the top of unit 4. The cab appears
to be possibly lead plated or otherwise modified. It is unclear if the unit is being operated remotely or by a worker.
Piece of portable equipment strapped to the crane. It is unclear if this is a generator, welder or some other piece of equipment.
View of the crane as it sits on unit 4, over the reactor well.
Pillar above the refueling deck at unit 4. It appears to be cracked horizontally. This pillar should eventually be removed
as part of the process to remove the upper floor of the building.
